I <3 my ASUS

The first thing I look at in a laptop is dedicated ATI/NVIDIA GPU.

Can you bump it up to 800~ for a mainstream laptop?

Also... Do you need to upgrade now or can it wait?

I personally don't go for acer as they are more low end systems. I buy mid-tier laptops. Though the brand isn't the issue, it's what's in it that matters.

Just use newegg and filter for dedicated GPU and other requirements you want as a starting point.

I play UT3/FarCry2/Fallout3/MW2 on High no lag... Cabal I get server lags.

The power of a dedicated GPU :D

BTW... Core2Duo = outdated now.

Anything with a Dedicated GPU+i3/i5/i7 will ensure you good gaming performance, when it comes to MMO you have to account for the server performance though. I like Dell Studios though :D

If you really don't need an upgrade. USB3.0 is supposed to be hitting the markets next year...

Are you sure that you need to get a laptop? You would get a lot more for your money with a desktop.

Also if you can't get a desktop, give us some more details (screen size, weight, battery life, max amount of money you can spend).

I disagree, laptops are very useful for college and other people that move around a lot. Thing is I don't think that it is a good idea to have a gaming laptop since they are usually really heavy, heat up like crazy and overall don't function well as either a portable device or a gaming computer.

Yeah... having to manage a desktop in a dorm room would not be fun...

And yeah... I avoid gaming laptops, I use ASUS's more multimedia ones to get more balance out of my laptop, I don't really take too much of a hit to gaming performance, and it's still portable. Also when gaming on any laptop, invest in a notebook cooler, it's a great investment.

You should help us out by providing what scenario your laptop is going to be used for. Usually a Class 2 GPU is more than sufficient and a Class 3 results in excess heat and power consumption.

dude, seriously...if you wanna be a gamer you gotta know some components to your system...i mean as Leonhart said you're gonna want a ATI radeon/NVIDIA Ge4xxx-8xxxx type GPU, a CPU (depending on the type or processor, single, dual, etc) 1.8-2.4GHz, you know you'll want around 2GBs of ram....this is a good start-off...and def try lookin at newegg, not sure where you wanna buy your system from..

nvidia 6250 runs cabal slower than pong on pause... you gotta get to at least the 7-8 series.. i got a 9400gt and it works beautifully. food for thought

Both dell and alienware desktops are extremely overpriced and they also . If you can't get a desktop, take a look at asus laptops. They generally offer good hardware and are pretty cheap.

asus, acer, HP usually have some pretty decent lappys that'll work fine for cabal....and @DVWizzy, yea you're right that why i said up to 8xxx with NVIDIA...I'm not a big ATI fan...i think AMD/ATI and NVID/Intel...although you can always mix em, its somethin that kind of a habit now...lol thanks for the info
