1) Immediately after the game crashes check the windows Event Log. Look for any yellow or red icon messages at the top of the Programs logs. These should be the most recent. Any that say specifically it was windows or a windows module, check the error codes on a Google search.

2) You can try a check files on the main launcher screen. Cabal will check its file hash sums for each file, note which don't hash check right, then download and install the replacements needed that do have proper hash checksums.

3) Update your DirectX drivers with the latest version. Can find this on Microsoft's Downloads page

4 ) Update your hardware drivers (namely your graphics card, sound card, and mainboard drivers) Do not use Microsoft update drivers for these as the Microsoft drivers are older, less frequently updated, and a lot of times stripped down. Examples: nVidia or ATI graphics, go to nVidia or ATI's website to download the latest drivers. Prepackaged computer and not a custom build, i.e. HP, COMPAQ, Gateway, etc, go to the manufacturer's drivers page, search for your model, and download the latest motherboard drivers for your model. Custom build computer, go to the motherboard manufacturer's website for the latest motherboard drivers. The motherboard drivers will have the drivers needed for the harddrive interface and such, and if an onboard sound chip, the latest soundchip drivers available.

5) Still having issues after that, best do some basic system maintenance. Surface scan (check disk) the hard drives, junk file clean up (check out CCleaner for this), registry scan to clean up registry errors and registry junk (CCleaner or Power Tools Lite), defrag the registry (Winmend Registry Defrag) reboot after, defrag the hard drive. Been more than 6 months since the case was opened up (do not do this on a laptop if you don't know what you are doing, Tower/Desktop not as critical, some laptops are hard to open, and everything is compact, one false move trying to open a laptop, the laptop can become an instant paper weight) clean out any dust in the case, clean the heatsinks, and memory modules with canned compressed air, not from an air compressor, and a dry lint free cloth.
