Alternatively it could just be an aesthetic place holder. Like the letter x.

Some people don't seem to realize a lot of names are still free I've seen a few people with unnecessary letters in front of their name although the actual name is still free lmao.

People took it from iPhone and everyone started copying their friends who did it. A couple of years ago there were only a handful of these and now they're everywhere.
