eh what kinda graphics card? if that is what you mean by 358 mb (as in an integrated one) eek lol.. might work though. i'd say get something with a good card. Nvidia GeForce 8XXX or higher..

swapping cards on a laptop can be near impossible depending on the laptop, so check on that first..

You can't upgrade graphics cards on laptops. If it has one of the intel intergraded GPUs, cabal will run horribly, I would strongly recommend looking for a computer with an ATI or Nvidia GPU.

Tell me the budget and I'll try to pick the parts for you. Also make sure to mention if you need everything or just the desktop itself (no monitor, etc.).

You can also try going to tomshardware.com forums and post your budget there. People there know much more than I do.

Not true. My Toshiba Tablet has a lame intel integrated one but Cabal runs fine on full graphics as long as I got a high seed internet

and holy crap Berserk. That's called overkill.

And as for laptops, this one is pretty decent for its cost: Satellite A500-ST6644 Laptops | Toshiba Direct (http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/cdetland.to?poid=467918&tab=features&top=true)
that one can run most games. But i'd say go for a desktop bcs you can do soo much more for them to make them better. And they can be added onto or modified if needed.

Berserk_Fury

I had a laptop with an intel graphics card and it was just terrible, even for that time. It also overheated like crazy whenever running cabal.

Ever since the HD 4xxx series ATI cards have been dominating the Nvidia cards. Hell my HD5870 still outperforms the new nvidia fermi cards even though its a generation behind.

Told me in my lifetime
My name would help light up the Chicago skyline

Why he keep giving me hot lines
I'm a star, how could I not shine

9800gtx is out dated yeah... and as for your ATI 4xxx series the 9800gtx's are better than the 4770's and on par with the 4850 not to mention SLI is superior to crossfire and nvidias drivers and cooling also detroys ATI's ask anyone that build PC's for a living and they will reccomend NVIDIA 99.9% of the time

But it is a whole lot inferior to the 4870. If you want to compare the 4770, use nvidia 9600 series (idk why nvidia skipped 9700), and for 4850 use the nvidia 9800 gt. The gtx+ was supposed to be on the same level as the 4870.

Try going to tomshardware and see if they recommend nvidia. I don't know about cooling of the last generation cards, but current generation ATI's run way cooler than current generation Nvidia, and they use a lot less power too.

General Info on GPU: http://www.notebookcheck.net/
Specific manufacturers might tweak a card to their own liking.

Btw looked through the link.

Pentium = Fail nowadays
Core2 = Obsolete

You needa be looking into the i series, even Apple finally caught on (And I hate apple)

As for ATI/NVIDIA it all depends, the past few months ATI dominated the High End GPU market (Which resulted in their prices inflating)

But NVIDIA recently caught back up to ATI and surpasses them. Don't know if the cards have been released yet.

I personally have a loyalty to ATI, but on notebooks I'll choose whatever is better, though ATI has a better Price to Performance ratio.

As I said before, the new fermi nvidia cards aren't even that good. The only time they outperform the ATI 5870 (which isn't even the ATI's top card) is on Nvidia sponsored games such as crysis, and they are a whole new generation of cards. I remember the same exact thing happened when nvidia rushed from the 9xxx series to the gtx series to compete with the 4800 series ATIs.

Just noting that neither company is completely dominant. Unlike Intel/AMD there's healthy competition between ATI/NVIDIA that fuels rapid advancement. A good GPU pretty much gets old within a year >.<

just gonna throw this out there, but unless you are planing to play all the high end games on your comp, you don't need to shell out $$$ on top-of-the-line parts. a Nvidia 9400gt will run cabal beautifully for $60

That is true, but buying a new computer for just cabal is a pretty big waste. For $800 you can get a computer that will run all the current games.
