Is it just me or did the slot upgrade chances get messed up like the regular item upgrade did before? I've been trying to slot my new blade with crit dmg. and it's failed 5 times already, even though each time it says I have a 51% chance each time.

You have to use as many force cores as you can (10 is the maximum number). Each force core increases the slotting chance by 5%. 85% is the maximum chance for 1st slot.

I think the item's current upgrade level can decrease the chances. It's at +3 already and only has a 41% chance with 1 force core.

If each core increases the chance by 5%, how do I only get 51% chance with 4 cores? I have a 41% chance with 1 core, so by your math, 4 cores would make it a 56% chance.

From what you are claiming, the item's current upgrade level rather increases the slotting chance. Maybe from 1 to 3, you get 1%, 4 to 6 2%, 7 to 9 3%, 10 to 12 4% and 13 to 15 5%. So the maximum chance for first slot will be 90% if the item is +13 or higher.

Maybe you only registered 3 force cores. 1% from item upgrade level + 35% + 3 cores*5% would give 51%.

Maybe you misread 61% (1% + 35% + 5*5%), as 51% or only registered 3 force cores.

Well, you were right that I had only registered 3 force cores, but it still only gives me a 56% chance with 4 cores. It seems that the 1st (required) core adds 5% chance as well. Here is my upgrade screen:
