He didn't lose any of his eosx+8s, or box+7s, or his blader's kats, for example, even though they were imported. Considering that Tang Dynasty held a monopoly over every derk and decent drop for months of the first few episodes it's no wonder that so many old players could accumulate a ridiculous amount of alz. It was much, much easier to get alz back in the day. It was, however, more difficult to get good item drops. Old Tang players, such as Eternity, came after experiencing other Cabal versions thus gaining gameplay knowledge. So the alz they spent on items was only wasted to a minimal extent.

I'll also add that knowledge of game mechanics plays a big factor in how much you waste on suboptimal gear. I'm not saying that I never wasted alz, because I've lost billions on stupid things, but I have more knowledge of the game mechanics than 99% of other players do and that helps a lot when deciding what gear you want to use, and what gear you want to end up using. Once again, some people just learn quicker than others.
