Can you later craft with the bike if the slots are already filled? Or must the slots be empty?

What i meant to ask was if i want to craft the bike to make a slot can it fail not slot it of course i know slotting anything can fail, lol
if u fail to slot the whole bike will break
u can still craft with the bike with slots filled (must have 2slots)
