fyi, Chinese new year is a holiday that lasts 15 days, Lunar new year is just one day. "Chinese New Year" is properly named because people are celebrating the holiday, not just the day of lunar new year. These are two different thing. It's ironic you posted red pockets or hunt a dragon because both traditions are from China.

Yes it is Chinese tradition because they started the tradition of celebrating the lunisolar cycle. And it is a great tradition thanks to the Chinese who is the founder of this cycle and related myths about the horoscope of animals naming.
However, The ancient Rome created the New Year tradition to celebrate a cycle of a solar Year, they don't call it Rome New Year do they. so im just pointing out the fact that it is known as "Lunar New Year" as some people do not know because the Chinese New Year are always being use, but western people dont know what's really behind it.
