Quick question regarding pets, sealing and safety kits

To all you people playing a lot with pets, I have a question.

If I have a sealed pet, can I still use a safety kit on it to get the gem out?

If I can, will the pet remain sealed? Or will I need a sleeping kit to make it tradable again?
