Since a lot of people are having this problem at once, it could be because of something on ESTsoft's end. That is what it was last time this error started popping up for a bunch of people. However, it could be because of a corrupted file on your end as well, so to get rid of that possibility, uninstall your game, delete the remaining files, if any, (Screenshots does not need to go.) then download this program (http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download), run the registry cleaning function, then reinstall the game, and run the updater. If it does not work, post back to me and I will begin to suggest other things you can try.

If you open the your anti-virus program, there should be a help menu or you can check on the web for instructions on how to add files and directories to the exclude list. I saw this thread and another about Avast and I thought I saw one for McAfee but I can't seem to find it.

Found a link to McAfee website with instructions.

A Win7 option.

And this thread has known issues listed.

Oh, OK. I would have said something about your AV, but you said you had switched it off. Sorry, but glad you could figure it out yourself.
