New Upgrade System - Can Items Still Break?

Hi there. I was wondering if items can still break with the new ugprading system we got a while ago (with Porta Inferno I believe).

I know that they no longer fall to 0 if you fail +7, but I'm not sure if higher ranks like 9 and higher have different conditions now.

You seem to be away from the game for rly long time. Well, in the new upgrade system no items is destroyed regardless it's rank if u fail upgrading them. when you fail upgrading, either it stays in it's current +, fail one + or fail two +. Using enhanced cores gives u higher chance for success and if it fails it fail one + only.
